Falling for Him -Snippet Sunday

It's Snippet Sunday, time for my Weekend Writing Warriors'  blog hop!

Boy, I was on the run all this week! Magic of Midsummer came out, and I found out that my publisher put Disarming Cowboys (Lone Wolves 7) up on preorder, yay! Ooh, and I've got a sneaky sign up announcement for you after the snippet.

Here's another peek at Bound to Her Master (synopsis follows the snippet), my planned 3-book erotic fantasy/romance

Last time, Ti-Hana, an earth girl posing as the sex slave of god and arising ruler Lord Stepanyan, had been talking to her midwife about her Master...and had expressed concern that the maidservants hadn't arrived to help her get ready for her next session with him. We finished with:

“You seem in a hurry to be in his arms again,” Carana said, her eyes narrow. A most dangerous dangerous prospect.”

Let's pick up with Ti-Hana's reply...

Ti-Hana shrugged and turned away from the window. “I assume that by dangerous, you mean that if I’m late it would displease my Master.”
Carana blocked her path, taking hold of her chin while staring at her intently. “Tread carefully, Ti-Hana. Your motives will serve you ill.”
Ti-Hana broke eye contact and pulled away. “I don't know what you're talking about—stranger in this land, remember?”
“You are no stranger to this. It is clear enough from your words, as well as the impatient, distracted way you have been flitting about and humming to yourself. You are falling for him.”

Is she? What do you think?

About Bound to Her Master:
Pregnant and on the run, Maddie races away from one set of problems only to plunge through a portal to another land. In the seventh realm, breathtakingly gorgeous demigods embrace ancient traditions of Dominance and sexual slavery...and she is about to become Ti-Hana, the most sought-after captive of all.

Stepanyan is in his time of ascension, ready to claim his father's place as ruler of the high seat. When his rival for the realm tries to claim a lost, pregnant human wandering in the Shogran, Stepanyan swoops the fiery beauty out from under him. He has no desire for a pleasure slave, but keeping Vo'Dan from getting what he wants is too great a temptation to ignore. No matter that Stepanyan's father banned pleasure slaves from his house decades before. Or that taking on a subservient is the last distraction he needs as he faces the trials of ascension.

  1. I believe she is falling for him, too. I hope she doesn't end up with a broken heart.

  2. I suspect that any warning about staying emotionally uninvolved is not going to be heeded. Good times roll on! :-}

    1. Heh...okay, Miss I-know-it's-a-romance :) ..Yes, are the midwife's interests really in Ti-Hana's well-being?

  5. It definitely looks like she's falling. What concerns me though, is the other woman's attitude... humm... Great snippet!

    1. Thanks! Yes, I think the midwife knows just how culturally unacceptable it would be for a slave and Master to ever be together, but is that her only motive?

  6. Uh oh, she better watch her step. I did find a typo if you have the opportunity to fix it: "taking hold of her chind while staring" "Chind" should be "chin". Great snippet, J. Rose. :)

  7. So, if she's falling for him, I wonder what dangers that exposes her to.

  8. I think she's right. But I don't think Ti-Hana is going to heed her warning.

    1. Ti-Hana certainly seems to have her own mind, despite her current status...

  9. It might be a language that's the same across cultures, but I suspect love is also difficult to control, no matter where you are.

  10. Oh, she's falling all right, straight into the arms of trouble.

  11. I wonder if the danger is to her heart or to her life, courtesy of jealous women.

  12. There's always someone ready to take another's place. I wonder who her master favors and what he's willing to do to protect his fancy...

  13. hum, I wonder is a slave can ever really fall for a master. She doesn't really have a choice, maybe it's better if she actually likes it in a way.

    1. She does and she doesn't, but it's a valid point...

  14. Yep, definitely falling for him. And I'm guessing denying it is only going to lead to trouble for her.

  16. I believe so, too ... she's falling for him. Nice snippet.

  17. Oh yeah, I'd say she's definitely falling for him. I wonder why that's such a bad thing and why they keep saying it's a dangerous path. So much intrigue! I'm enjoying the mystery.
