Heavenly Ham and Cheese Strata

It's Too Yummy Tuesday!

On select Tuesdays I share delicious recipes either inspired by my books or that are just plain delicious!

Today's dish is one I like either for brunch or dinner. You can make it up the night before and refrigerate, then pop in the oven in the morning. This dish also lends itself well to tossing in leftovers, like extra strips of bacon crumbled up (not that we very often find ourselves with uneaten bacon in this house!), chopped chives, well-drained tomatoes, spinach, artichoke hearts, etc. Try the base dish and then experiment to see what favorites you can come up with!

Heavenly Ham and Cheese Strata

Ingredients

8 slices white bread, cut into cubes and toasted
4 oz. ham, sliced into thin strips
2 oz. shredded Cheddar cheese
2 cups milk
2 eggs

Directions
Preheat oven to 350. Arrange bread cubes in a single layer over the bottom and up sides of a greased 9” baking dish. Top with ham and sprinkle evenly with cheese. In a small bowl beat together milk and eggs and pour into dish. Bake for 45 to 55 minutes until strata is puffy, lightly browned, and a knife inserted in center comes out clean. Cover with foil while baking if it starts browning too fast.

Remove from oven; let stand 10 minutes before slicing.

Makes about 4 servings.
