Cursed by Fate -Snippet Sunday

It's Snippet Sunday, a Weekend Writing Warriors'  blog hop!

I'm still posting snippets from Book 4, Fire of Beltane. The series trailer will go live next week, and I'll include it with next week's snippet. Meanwhile, I have a special cover reveal below for Book 3!

Last time, we encountered the Fates when they finally revealed themselves to Jorandil, god of Beltane. In the last sentence, they asked: “Why have you disturbed the acts of fate upon which so much of humanity rests?”

We pick up with Jorandil's reply...

“I want you to release me from the curse that has taken hold of my brothers.”
“Curse?” the gravel-toned Decuna hissed. “Is the god of a fertility sabbat so harsh and jaded in matters of love?”
“My brothers are not truly in love, but merely under some spell you have woven that clouds their judgment.”
“Is it so hard to hope they have found true happiness?” they asked, bobbing faster.
“Not when it is a false hope conjured by your meddling.”
The trio turned in unison and drifted off, each floating up to one of the mirrors in the room to observe his reflection.
“Faithless,” hissed Decuna.
“Frightened,” said Nona.
“Desperate,” added Morta.

What do you think?

About Fire of Beltane:
It is the time of Beltane, and Jorandil, son of Herne, secretly wishes his presence could be known and his touch by the woman chosen as his sabbat partner. Then Cadence comes along, aware of her angel's visit, mesmerized by the beauty of his wings and the power of his touch. Sealing the veil between worlds divides them, but neither can forget the other. And when their pursuit of answers reveals that dire trouble awaits Cadence, a trouble Jorandil was responsible for creating, he must defy his father and risk unleashing an even greater danger to save her.

About The Sons of Herne:

The god Herne has appointed eight of his most virile, headstrong sons as keepers of the pagan holidays. To honor their sabbat, each must join with a mortal female in a ritual to maintain the balance between worlds.

It is the year of The Thousand Seasons, and the Fates have secretly conspired to mark the end of an era by granting the gods one thing they lack--a true union of male and female that will last beyond the passion of a sabbat joining.

Herne’s sons will wrestle with the conflict between sacred duty and their own yearnings, a struggle will not only challenge their beliefs, but may threaten the success of rituals that must be observed lest the mortal and immortal worlds collide in chaos.

....And now, drum roll please:

Tada! Here's the first official peek at the cover for Spirit of Spring, Book 3, which will be available on Valentine's Day.

Read Book 1 of the series, Season of Light, now available on Amazon!

  1. Bet it was the use of "meddling" that got them riled.

    1. And perhaps it isn't even untrue, but his tendency to pull few punches isn't endearing him here. :)

  8. I'm intrigued. I think what the Fates had to say was interesting, open to a lot of interpretation, which fits perfectly with who they are. Great snippet!

  10. I love their cryptic, one-word answers. That's just the sort of unhelpful thing the Fates would do.

    1. No, he isn't in a very good humor about the meddling, although one wonders if he isn't more worried about being next. :)
