It's Snippet Sunday, a Weekend Writing Warriors' blog hop!
I'm excited to announce that Fire of Beltane, Book 4 of my Sons of Herne series, is out! Find out below how to get Books 1 and 2 for free!
In honor of the release, I'm posting a snippet from Fire of Beltane. Last time, Jorandil, god of Beltane, had been told by the Fates that his lover, Cadence, was in danger--and that she meant more to him than he cares to admit. We ended with this sentence: “You did not spend your days before the sabbat nursing a quiet heart’s wish to experience true passion between male and female?” Nona asked, and his heart sputtered in reply.
We pick up a few sentences later (creatively edited to meet the snippet format)...

“How far
into the future is this vision of her fate?” Jorandil asked.
“Not
far, son of Herne,” the Fates answered in tandem.
“The
question remains, will you do what your heart demands?” Decuna asked.
“I
will help Cadence,” he said. “You must aid me in crossing to the other realm,
especially if you had any part to play in our meeting.”
They bobbed
up and down in tandem, but before they could reply, the door crashed open—and Herne
boiled into the room.
“I
have come for an explanation,” he said, his voice booming through the room. He
stopped with a puzzled expression when he saw Jorandil spin around to face him.
“Son?”
It is the time of Beltane, and Jorandil, son of Herne, secretly wishes his presence could be known and his touch by the woman chosen as his sabbat partner. Then Cadence comes along, aware of her angel's visit, mesmerized by the beauty of his wings and the power of his touch. Sealing the veil between worlds divides them, but neither can forget the other. And when their pursuit of answers reveals that dire trouble awaits Cadence, a trouble Jorandil was responsible for creating, he must defy his father and risk unleashing an even greater danger to save her.
About The Sons of Herne:
About The Sons of Herne:
The god Herne has appointed eight of his most virile, headstrong sons as keepers of the pagan holidays. To honor their sabbat, each must join with a mortal female in a ritual to maintain the balance between worlds.
It is the year of The Thousand Seasons, and the Fates have secretly conspired to mark the end of an era by granting the gods one thing they lack--a true union of male and female that will last beyond the passion of a sabbat joining.
Herne’s sons will wrestle with the conflict between sacred duty and their own yearnings, a struggle will not only challenge their beliefs, but may threaten the success of rituals that must be observed lest the mortal and immortal worlds collide in chaos.
Special Offer! Today's the last day to grab Book 1 of the series, Season of Light, direct from Amazon for free! And inside, there's a special link for you to get Book 2 free as well.

Oops. Herne bursting in like that suggests he is not happy - what makes me think Jorandil's in the firing line?
ReplyDeleteIf he's not, he might be soon enough!
DeleteCongrats on the release!!! Parents . . . whatcha gonna do? Very nice tease.
ReplyDeleteThanks! And yeah, the dad thing is pretty much a running theme in this series. :)
DeleteSounds like the fates are messing with everyone's plans! Love "boiled into the room". Creates such a vivid picture.
ReplyDeleteHerne likes to boil, for sure. Heh. :)
DeleteThey didn't read Dr. Spock. He'd have help solve all their probs.
ReplyDeleteDr. Spock might even throw up his hands at Herne's parenting style, but I hear ya!
DeleteCongrats on your new release! Yikes! He was determined to help her, but now it seems plans will change. Nice snippet! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you!! Yes, helping Cadence is going to be a problematic task...
DeleteWondering what Herne wants an explanation for, and why he's surprised to see his son. Intriguing excerpt! Congratulations on the new release!
ReplyDeleteThank you!! Yes, he's out for answers, and he isn't one to be patient about getting them.
DeleteBugger!
ReplyDeleteMissed, by the skin of his teeth. Can't wait to see the explanation for this one!
LOL! We'll have to see if I find room to squeeze in any more snippets from this down the line.

This para: “I have come for an explanation,” he said, his voice booming through the room. He stopped with a puzzled expression when he saw Jorandil spin around to face him. “Son?” Outstanding. While I read it, it was audible--the booming voice, and then it finished in dead silence after he said, "Son?" Nice!
ReplyDeleteThank you for that feedback! Exactly the vibe I was going for. :)
DeleteBoom and bust - what is going on?
ReplyDeleteLOL! Love how you put that. :)
DeleteSounds like a bit of an awkward moment to me.
ReplyDeleteHerne's great at those...
DeleteI'm guessing daddy doesn't appreciate Jorandil's interest in the fair lady. That's a rather dramatic entrance if, say, he was just going to offer the keys to the car for Jorandil's date. ;-)
ReplyDeleteHA! But then, as a dad that kind of entrance to hand over the keys WOULD be sort of funny.
DeleteDad is not going to like this. Lol.
ReplyDeleteNot likely!
DeleteI like that--you were part of the problem, now be part of the solution! Hope they agree.
ReplyDeleteEven gods have to clean up their messes sometimes. :)
DeleteCongrats on the new release! Maybe Dad can be helpful?
ReplyDeleteThanks! Dad will definitely push things along, but in what direction?
DeleteSounds like he's maybe been sidetracked from his demand for an explanation.
ReplyDeleteHe definitely seems surprised to find his offspring there ahead of him!
DeleteOh, that sounds like it might be about to get awkward! I wonder what Herne wanted to know? Great descriptions and an intriguing scene.
ReplyDeleteThank you! Things are definitely taking an interesting turn...
ReplyDeleteOh uh, that's probably going to cause some issues! He's seems quite peeved.
ReplyDeleteYep, definitely peeved. And issues in 3,2,1...
DeleteI'm thinking dad isn't happy with what he about to do. Great snippet.
ReplyDeleteGreat descriptions. And dad's there? Interesting.
ReplyDeleteYeah, dad seems to show up at inconvenient times a lot in this series, LOL.
DeleteIt's never good when your dad comes bursting in a room. Great snippet.
ReplyDeleteOops... Bad timing there, Herne! I think his son is the last person he expected to see in that room. I could almost picture the Fates as bobble heads for some reason. LOL!
