Since I got most of the prep done for July's Chillin' in Summer blog tour, I was able to log some actual writing hours!! Yay. I'm working on Sons of Herne 5, Feillor: God of Lammas.
Last time, Feillor, god of the harvest, was being harassed by his aide while trying to bring in the first sheaves of harvest. The aide expressed concern that Feillor is next on the list for the Fates' ploy of getting the sabbat gods to fall in love. We ended with: “Enough of this, Shango. I have no plans to leave the realm or my calling. And for someone so insistent upon me fulfilling my sabbat duties, I should think you would not want to continue interrupting my task.”
We pick up a few sentences later, after he succeeded in getting rid of his worried aide...

The thought of joining himself to a human outside of ritual necessity was a ludicrous notion—and Feillor had more pressing concerns than the unlikely prospect of being swept away by the wave of passion that had claimed his sabbat brothers. For all its unexpected side effects, the year of the Thousand Seasons had brought forth a bountiful harvest that, with the proper observance and thanks, might last through several seasons to come.
He lifted the scythe from his shoulder and pointed it straight upward. While not the sacred sabbat artifact, he considered the blade a holy implement, that which would cut the first sheaves of harvest.
“Sha-do ram, yo shai a lara Lammas,” he chanted up to the sky. “The god of Lammas comes with his scythe to reap and give thanks for the first of this year’s harvest.”
A flash of light appeared just in front of the swing of his blade, and he pulled back just in time to narrowly miss the large object that had appeared in his path.
Feillor took a staggering step backward, thrown off balance by the last-minute change of course. A human woman-naked, no less-had come out of thin air, kneeling before him with her hands outstretched until she saw his blade coming for her. She gasped and ducked, then threw herself prostrate on the ground.
What do you think?

Whoa! Talk about an answer to prayers! Well, maybe not yet, but soon, I'm guessing. Poor guy, just doing his job and a naked chick drops in his path. What's a guy to do? Love it!
ReplyDeleteBahahaha yeah, poor Feillor! :)
DeleteNo wonder she freaked out ! And poor him! Hope things get sorted. Great snippet!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I hope so too, for both their sakes. :)
DeleteSounds like he's going to have to interact with humans before he expected. Nice snippet! :)
ReplyDeleteHeh heh, yeah, definitely not something he planned on!
DeleteHmmm. So who manifested the naked woman? And to what purpose?
ReplyDeleteI think Feillor will have some ideas on that, once the initial shock wears off...
DeleteWell, now, that's an annoyance! And he was annoyed enough to begin with!
ReplyDeleteNothing like taking an annoyed character and ratcheting up the irritation!
DeleteInteresting snippet indeed! I wonder who sent the woman to him? And he might as well give up right now, his Fate is set LOL. Loved the excerpt.
ReplyDeleteThank you! Fate does like to meddle with this series...
DeleteA question for you: How do you pronounce Feillor? There's no standard way to sound it out.
ReplyDeleteFAY-lore. :)
DeleteHa! I'd hit the dirt too, in the face of a scythe-weilding god. 😀
ReplyDeleteSame here!! Gak!
DeleteWow, I did not expect her and obviousoly neither did Feillor. Defintely makes me want to keep reading.
ReplyDeleteYes, a surprise human in his sacred field was definitely not part of his sabbat plans!
DeleteCareful what you wish for...or disdain. Great snippet, J. Rose. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you! Yes, he should definitely think twice about what he wishes for.
DeleteThe divine powers that be definitely think he ought to have a woman!
ReplyDeleteHa! LOL it certainly seems so!
DeleteWhoa! You don't see that every day. Not that most guys wouldn't WANT to see that every day. Great snippet!
ReplyDeleteBahahaha...nor do girls normally see a big, hunky god taking a swing at them! :)
DeleteWhat a shocking situation for Feillor as well as the woman!
ReplyDeleteSeriously!! He never saw that coming!
DeleteWhoa, I didn't see that coming! Great snippet.

I didn't either...even when I first outlined all the scenes, I didn't realize she'd literally pop in right in front of his blade!
DeleteOh ... interesting answer to his prayer. nice snippet.
ReplyDeleteAnd yet I doubt he sees it that way at this point! :)
DeleteGlad he has fast reflexes. Ha!
ReplyDeleteVivid writing--the scene was easy to "see". I like the way he speaks. It adds a good element to his character.
I didn't see the survey link, Rose. Maybe it just got by me?? lol. I like the website. Your bio is great--with a nice, new, shiny pic of you. The functionality worked fine. :-)
Thank you! The survey link was up on the main page just above the free book offer...sorry you missed it. But I appreciate your feedback
DeleteDidn't see that coming! I think someone is now laughing in his face for not wanting to fall for that passion. Or this is just some cruel joke to him. LOL. Great snippet.
