Boost NaNoWriMo Word Count With One Easy Trick

Part of a special month-long event featuring writing tips and NaNoWriMo strategies from guest writers and fellow NaNo participants.

NaNoWriMo Tip from E.J. Runyon

I've been at this NaNo fun for 13 years, and a great word count boost is the 'Word War' - against yourself, or your region's folks. From the Word War threads or even against your buddies.
1 - Picture the scene.
2- Don't worry about words - just see the scene.
3 - A short set time (15 or 20 minutes) or longer and BAM!
Three or four of those in a 24-hour period, and your quota for the day accomplished.
I use a timer on my computer, so I can set one of these and
I'm off typing. It rings and I sit back amazed at how easy things came pouring out.

About the Author:
Without NaNoWriMo, who knows where I'd be with my own writing, or my coaching/editing for other novices. It's been a ride!
6 stories, taken from 5 of my novels from various NaNo years, make up part of my debut Short Story Collection - 'Claiming One'. That was published in 2012 by Inspired Quill (UK). Plus, my 2008 Nano effort ( a guide for writers) was picked up by them too!

By E.J. Runyon:

Too many books tell you what you need to do during a round of editing...but they very rarely explain why that need exists. Without explanation and examples to help your understanding, craft basics can feel restrictive and unbearable.
You might have already begun writing something you’ve had a great idea for. But a great story requires more than the gift of inspiration.

Tell Me A Story takes you through the first steps of what you need to know to write well, and how to improve your editing technique. This book lets you learn with Hows and Whys, through writing examples from real novices. This will allow you to jump into storytelling with solid practices for getting your ideas from your mind to the page.
